It is said that when giving, you are expected to not want anything in return. However, giving too much and CONSTANTLY receiving nothing in return could inevitably take a toll on oneβs mental health. As someone who constantly gives and expects nothing in return, who is always the βtherapistβ friend; it honestly gets tiring. Oftentimes, it makes you forget to put yourself first above other people. It also means that sometimes we forget that listening to OUR needs and wants are more important than having to constantly listen and help others.
This mental health awareness month allows us individuals to focus on ourselves, for a change, and our own mental wellbeing. Which is why it is imperative that we continue to spread positivity and encourage those who are having a hard time to put themselves first.
